His Word Friday (September 30)

(16) So Paul arose, and motioning with his hand said, Men of Israel and you who reverence and fear God, listen!

(17) The God of this people Israel selected our forefathers and made this people great and important during their stay in the land of Egypt, and then with an uplifted arm He led them out from there.

(18) and for about forty years like a fatherly nurse He cared for them in the wilderness and endured their behavior.

(19) When He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He gave them (the Hebrews) their land as an inheritance (distributing it to them by lot; all of which took) about 450 years.

(20) After that, He gave them judges until the prophet Samuel.

(21) Then they asked for a king; and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.

(22) And when He had deposed him, He raised up David to be their king, of him He bore witness and said, I have found David son of Jesse a man after My own heart, who will do all My will and carry out …

1. It is officially fall here in North America...I realize not everyone who participates in the Hodgepodge lives in North America, but if you do what's your favorite memory of Summer 2011? If you're not in North America, what's your favorite memory of the season just ending on your side of the world?
A- My most favorite memory was going to `Celebrate Freedom`.  `Celebrate Freedom` is an all day free concert with several Christian artists. With over 50,000 people attending.

2. Your favorite nut? You know I mean the edible kind, right?
A- It's hard to choose just one. I love brazil nuts, pistachios, and pecans.  The one nut I don't like is cashews.

3. What activity puts your sense of balance to the test?
A- My balance is put to the test when I am getting on an escalator going down...watch out below!

4. How would you describe your sense of humor?
A- All I can say is..I am very gullible…

(8) When you bear (produce) much fruit, My Father is honored and glorified, and you show and prove yourselves to be true followers of Mine,

(9) I have loved you, (just) as the Father has loved Me; abide in My love (continue in His love for Me).

(10) If you keep My commandments (if you continue to obey My instructions), you will abide in My love and live on in it, just as I have obeyed My Father's commandments and live on in His love.

(11) I have told you these things, that My joy and delight may be in you, and that your joy and gladness may be of full measure and complete and overflowing.

(12) This is My commandment: that you love one another (just) as I have loved you.

(13) No one has greater love (no one has shown stronger affection) than to lay down (give up) his own life for his friends.

(14) You are My friends if you keep on doing the things which I command you to do.

(15) I do not call you servants (slaves) any longer, for the servant does not know what his master is doing …

1. Do you like chili? Red or white? Beans or no beans? Spice or no spice? Toppings?
A- I enjoy red chili when the weather is cool. It definitely must have beans, otherwise I'll use it on my hotdogs and call it a chili dog. I like my chili topped with onions, shredded cheddar cheese and just a tad spicy.

2. Red-orange-gold...your favorite fall color?
A- The only time I use any of these colors is during the fall. However, I love to see a mixture of these colors. I can't say I have a favorite one. They all complement each other.

3. Who did you idolize when you were growing up?
A-I can't think of anyone right now.

4. When was the last time you did something 'arts and craftsy'? Share please.
A- This is an easy question. A group of ladies at our church, including me, crochet Prayer Shawls (Prayer Blankets) for anyone who is in need of hospitalization, lost a family member, had a baby, …

(15) Now they were bringing (even) babies to Him that He might touch them, and when the disciples noticed it, they reproved them.

(16) But Jesus called them (the parents) to Him, saying, Allow the little children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for to such (as these) belongs the kingdom of God.

(17) Truly I say to you, whoever does not accept and receive and welcome the kingdom of God like a little child (does) shall not in any way enter it (at all).

(34) And Jesus called (to Him) the throng with His disciples and said to them, If anyone intends to come after Me, let him deny himself (forget, ignore, disown, and lose sight of himself and his own interests) and take up his cross, and (joining Me as a disciple and siding with my party) follow with Me (continually, cleaving steadfastly to Me).

(35) For whoever wants to save his (higher spiritual, eternal) life, will lose it (the lower, natural, temporal life which is lived only on earth); and whoever gives up his life (which is lived only on earth); for My sake and the Gospel's will save it (his higher spiritual life in the eternal kingdom of God).

(36) For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life (in the eternal kingdom of God)?

(37) For what can a man give as an exchange (a compensation, a ransom in return) for his (blessed) life (in the eternal kingdom of God)?

(38) For whoever is ashamed (here and now) of Me and My words in this adulterous (unf…

1. What is one piece of advice you would give a 'just-turning' 21 year old adult?
A- You may save yourself years of headache/heartache if you wait to get married and have children. Your life is just beginning, it's not true that it's almost over. Take that missions trip to Jamaica, that's what is important.

2. Besides cooler weather (or warmer weather, depending on your hemisphere) what is one thing you are looking forward to this fall?
A- I love switching over my Spring/Summer clothes for Autumn/Winter clothes. It just puts a new step in my life.  Fall is also the time for beginning new Bible studies.

3. What sound lulls you to sleep?
A- I do not have problems falling asleep. But given my choice, I love the sounds of slowly falling rain and soft music playing in the background.

4. September is National Preparedness Month...does your family have an emergency 'kit' and/or di…

O let all who thirst,
let them come to the water.
And let all who have nothing,
let them come to the Lord:
without money, without price.
Why should you pay the price,
except for the Lord?

And let all who seek,
let them come to the water.
And let all who have nothing,
let them come to the Lord:
without money, without strife.
Why should you spend your life,
except for the Lord?

And let all who toil,
let them come to the water.
And let all who are weary,
let them come to the Lord:
all who labor, without rest.
How can your soul find rest,
except for the Lord?

And let all the poor,
let them come to the water,
Bring the ones who are laden,
bring them all to the Lord:
bring the children without might.
Easy the load and light:
come to the Lord.

His yoke is easy ~ Matthew 11:28-30 (amp)

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. (I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.)

Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.

For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good - not harsh, hard, sharp or pressing, but comfortable, gracious and pleasant) and My burden is light and easy to be borne.
